Resin-Bound Splash Park Transformation at Unity Holiday Park, Somerset
We recently completed a fantastic commercial resin-bound surfacing project at Unity Holiday Park in Brean, Somerset, transforming approximately 370m² of tired concrete around the splash park into a bold, colourful and completely refreshed space.
From Tired Concrete to a Bespoke Finish
Before we arrived, the area surrounding the splash park was predominantly old concrete. It was tired, dated and simply didn't do justice to the fantastic water play facilities around it.
The brief was to completely transform the area using a bespoke design provided by the project architect.
This wasn't a standard resin-bound installation. The architect had specified a striking blue and white chevron design, meaning colour accuracy, setting out and attention to detail were crucial throughout the project.
Bespoke RAL-Matched Colour-Bound Resin
To achieve the architect's exact specification, we used a colour-bound resin system, with the resin specifically dyed to the required RAL colour.
This allowed us to produce the strong blue finish required for the project rather than being restricted to the appearance of conventional natural aggregates.
Once the main areas had been installed, we carefully introduced the contrasting white chevron pattern, creating the distinctive geometric design that can be seen around the splash park today.
Approximately 370m² of Specialist Resin Surfacing
At approximately 370m², this was a substantial installation that required careful planning and setting out, particularly when working around the existing pools, slides, water-play equipment and surrounding structures.
The completed surface has completely changed the appearance of the area.
Where there was once plain, worn concrete, there is now a bright blue and white resin-bound surface that works brilliantly alongside the colourful water slides and play equipment.
The aerial before-and-after photographs really show the scale of the transformation.
Bringing the Architect's Vision to Life
One of the things we particularly enjoyed about the Unity Holiday Park project was the opportunity to demonstrate that resin-bound surfacing doesn't have to be limited to traditional driveways or single-colour commercial areas.
With the right products, preparation and installation expertise, resin-bound systems can be used to create bespoke colours, patterns and architectural designs on a much larger scale.
For this project, our role was to take the architect's design from the drawing board and reproduce it accurately across approximately 370m² of the splash park.
The result is a distinctive surface that has helped completely transform the look and feel of the facility.
Unity's waterpark is today known as Unity Splash, part of Unity Beach in Brean, Somerset, and features both indoor and outdoor splash facilities.
